The website is now up and running. This is good for not only private sector advocates for hydrogen, but it shows that the public sector is getting serious about hydrogen as well.

For years, hydrogen advocates like myself have complained that the will of our government seems weak when in comes to developing H2 technology. Now maybe (and this is a big maybe) our government is starting to come around as to the merits of hydrogen technology.

According to the website the purpose of is “The Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Interagency Working Group consists of participating federal agencies that exchange information about hydrogen and fuel cell research, development, and demonstration projects and collaborate on related activities.

“Representatives from the participating agencies meet regularly to share research results, technical expertise, and lessons learned about program implementation, technology development, and deployment. They also coordinate interagency programs and activities related to safe, economical, and environmentally sound hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.”

The participating agencies include the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, NASA, National Science Foundation, U. S. Postal Service and the Executive Office of the President.

Well, this isn’t a bold move such putting up 12,000 hydrogen fueling stations by 2015 would be. But, at least this is a step in the right direction of getting the different government agencies communicating, so that when our government does decide to take decisive action, the groundwork for such action will already be laid.
