Las Vegas Says 2nd Hydrogen Station A Sure Thing

Las Vegas, already accustomed to seeing green, is set to open a second hydrogen fueling station in October 2006. This is according to a report in the Las Vegas Sun. According to the Sun, the fueling station will open at Las Vegas Valley Water District’s main campus and in coordination with the UNLV Research Foundation.

An $8.9 million federal grant is paying for the building of the hydrogen fueling station and hydrogen will be produced for the station via solar energy. The first hydrogen fueling station in Las Vegas was built 3 years ago, cost $10.8 million and presently services two hydrogen autos and four trucks.

Plans are in the works to add another eight H2 shuttle buses or trucks to the lineup before the October opening date.

In this case, what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas, since going greener will be a benefit to us all.
